Barbie Mariposa is a multimedia playline Barbie franchise, spanning from 2008 to 2013. The line is a spinoff to the Barbie Fairytopia line, which you can find out more about here.

Barbie: Mariposa, also known as Barbie: Mariposa and Her Butterfly Fairy Friends, is the first movie instalment in the franchise, released direct-to-DVD in 2008. Narrated by Fairytopia heroine Elina, the film introduces Mariposa, a shy butterfly fairy from the distant Fairytopia realm of Flutterfield, and who dreams of the world beyond the safe borders of her home. The story follows Mariposa as she journeys on a quest to discover an antidote to cure the poisoned Queen Marabella, and her save her home from the evil fairy Henna.

A sequel film, Barbie Mariposa and the Fairy Princess, was later released in 2013. Following her appointment as Royal Ambassador of Flutterfield, this film follows Mariposa as she travels to the neighbouring kingdom of Shimmervale to make peace with the King of the Crystal Fairies. There, she befriends the King’s daughter Princess Catania, with who she must work together to save Shimmervale.
