Back of the Box and Official Description:
Once long ago, a beautiful baby girl was born to a king and queen. The parents were so happy they invited everyone in the kingdom to a great banquet.
The baby’s many fairy godmothers brought magical gifts for the new princess. The first wished her beauty, the next gave her a lovely voice, and so on. But as the last fairy godmother approached the baby with her gift, a wicked fairy stormed into the hall.
Angry that she had not been invited to the party, the wicked fairy said in a loud voice, “When your daughter grows up, she will prick her finger on a spindle and fall dead!” Everyone was horrified. But, the last fairy who had not given her wish stepped forward, “I can’t undo the evil spell, but I can soften it. The princess won’t die, but will fall into a deep sleep until awakened by a prince.”
The king immediately commanded that all spinning wheels in the kingdom be destroyed. The baby princess grew into a beautiful young lady with all the qualities her fairy godmothers had promised her.
One day when the princess was exploring the castle, she came to a room with an old woman at a spinning wheel. Noticing that the princess was curious, the old woman invited her to try the spinning wheel. But the princess pricked her finger on the needle, and fell asleep. Everyone in the castle fell asleep also. Time passed, and thick branches with thorns grew around the castle. Every year, the trees and hedge grew higher until all that could be seen was the tip of the tower.
Meanwhile, a handsome, young prince, determined to see the beautiful sleeping princess, made his way through the thicket of thorns. A path with lovely roses led him to the castle, where he found everyone sleeping.
The prince climbed the tower, and kissed the sleeping princess. She awoke and smiled at him. Then, everyone woke up and celebrated with a splendid party. The prince and princess fell in love, were married, and lived happily forever.
