This sculpt is the “closed mouth” counterpart to the “open mouth” Barbie face sculpt released in 2005 specifically for the Fashion Fever playline dolls. In addition to being used for the character Barbie, this face mold was briefly used for Teresa at the tail end of the Fashion Fever line, with the company seemingly having given up on the 2006 Fashion Fever Teresa face. The head of this sculpt and Teresa’s Fashion Fever face of 2006 and 2007 appear particularly larger than the previous standard Barbie face sculpts, and it did not perform well, leading to a short lifespan of only four years. The first doll to have this sculpt was the 2007 Jumping Horse Tawny Barbie Playset. Perhaps this sculpt, with its larger head, demonstrated a juvenile approach that did not appeal to its audience? It saw very little usage after the Fashion Fever line, and discontinued after 2009. In 2010, the sculpt was replaced by the Barbie Fashionistas face that came out for the character of Barbie during the same year.
