Every year, for several wonderful days, the city of Rio de Janeiro transforms into the most extravagant city in Brazil. In a frenzy of music, dance, sequins, and feathers, the Carlocas (local inhabitants) and countless others celebrate carnaval! From the beaches in Ipanema and Copacabana to the Old City and beyond, revelers don sparkly and exotic costumes and take to the streets. The flamboyant balls, boisterous parades, and fantastic street carnavals that continue on throughout the festival are legendary. One brown-eyed beauty enters the throng, ready to party! With pure joy, she joins the dancers and moves to the rhythms of the samba, a delirious mixture of African and Portuguese music. Instruments blare as people sing along with the incessant drum beats!
