Introduction
Aikatsu! Idol Academy is a multimedia idol franchise by Japanese company Bandai Namco. The series originated as an arcade game in Bandai Namco's DataCardass brand, a type of an arcade game that utilizes scannable collectible cards. The first anime premiered in 2012, and ran until 2021 with the series Aikatsu Planet!.
As a Doll Franchise
Dolls for this series are a part of Bandai’s StyleDoll series. The first dolls were released in 2019 for the series Aikatsu Friends! and featured only two characters. In 2023, new dolls were announced as part of the ongoing celebration of the franchise’s 10th anniversary.
