1985 Diva/Midge Face Mold

The 1985 Diva/Midge Face Mold is known for the character Midge from 1990 onwards. The face was first used for the character Diva in the Barbie and the Rockers line from 1986. Shortly afterwards, the face was used for the character Bopsy for Barbie and the Sensations. In 1989, the face entered its stride with Midge as a softball player with Barbie and the All Stars. Midge has been featured with this face as a disco dancer, roller skater, skiier, camper, and in the Earring Magic, Slumber Party, Florida Vacation, Hawaii, Surf City, Palm Beach, and Sea Holiday lines. One of the most well-known lines featuring Midge with this unique face mold puts the character at the front and center with the Happy Family line. Due to the character being depicted as pregnant, the line fell under controversy due to parents complaining that it encouraged teen pregnancy. Prior to this line, however, Midge was portrayed in her own wedding with the 1990 Wedding Day Midge, along with her groom, Alan, and Barbie as her enthusiastic bridesmaid. Although this face belongs primarily to Midge, it has also been used for multiple non-character Barbie dolls for its simple versatility.
