With the release of the Shani line in 1991, there were 4 new characters introduced: Shani, Nichelle, Asha, and Jamal. Each doll featured a brand new accompanying face mold! Unfortunately, the Shani line did not last very long, so there were only ever 4 Asha dolls released up until its discontinuation in 1993. But after that, the Asha face mold was used heavily throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, and was used in many of the animated Barbie movie dolls. The sculpt is now primarily seen in playline releases.
