Whilst officially described and listed by Mattel as being part of the Fairytopia line, the boxes for the 2008 Mix and Switch Mermaids do not use the Fairytopia logo or branding, instead using a new stylised Barbie logo surrounded by a mermaid and fairy. The line of fairy and mermaid releases in 2008 has no official name but refers to Mermaid Magic and Fairy Fun on the back of the boxes.
Further playline mermaid and fairy fantasy Barbies would go on to not be listed as Fairytopia and would signal the soft discontinuation of the core Fairytopia line, with the spin-off line Mariposa continuing until 2013.
