Launched in 2015, Generation 1 of DC Super Hero Girls was a collaboration between Mattel and DC Entertainment. The franchise debuted with animated YouTube shorts and grew throughout 2016 to include a line of graphic novels, action dolls, toys, apparel and more. Created in response to growing demand for alternatives to traditional fashion dolls, the brand reflected the momentum of the 2015 girl power movement and the rising popularity of superheroes in mainstream media.
