Jem is a doll-line and TV Series created by Hasbro in 1985. The story revolves around Jerrica Benton, the owner of the record label Starlight Music, and her alter ego, the “Truly Outrageous” pop-star Jem. Joined by her younger sister Kimber Benton, and her foster sisters Aja Leith and Shana Elmsford, the 4 girls made up The Holograms. The line was preceded by it’s TV show counterpart which began airing in 1985, with the Hasbro produced dolls hitting store shelves the year after. The line came to an end in 1987, with the show wrapping up it’s third season the same year.

Jem made a comeback in 2012, producing a new line of high-end adult collector dolls with the toy manufacturer Integrity Toys. The line with Integrity ran from 2012 to 2022, releasing many of the unused looks and characters from the line’s original run. During this time, Jem also had a 2015 live action movie adaptation Jem and the Holograms, aswell as a comic-book series adaptation with IDW Publishing that ran from 2015 to 2017.

The brand later made a second resurgence into the doll market in 2025 with the manufacturer The Loyal Subjects, who have been known in recent years for releasing toys for other popular 80’s properties, including Strawberry Shortcake, Teletubbies, and Rainbow Brite.
