Now you can perform an experiment at home with Adrienne Attoms, Project Mc2’s resident culinary chemist (yes, it’s a thing!). Make your own perfume just using household ingredients like rose petals, vanilla and rosewater. As you break up the rose petals, you release essential oils containing natural fragrance. Those oils are the essence of a plant’s scent, and that’s what makes it “essential”! When you mix the crushed rose petals and rosewater together, you infuse and enhance the rosewater with the characteristics of the flower, giving your perfume an extra rosy scent. And that’s pretty essential for a beautifully fragrant perfume!

What you’ll need for this experiment:
- Perfume bottle and cap from Adrienne’s Perfume set
- Rose water (or tap water)
- Rose petals
- Vanilla extract
Let’s begin!
- Remove the cap from the perfume bottle and twist off the spray nozzle. Fill the bottle to the third line from the top with rose water. Insert one drop of vanilla extract.
- Crush or tear three rose petals and insert them into the bottle.
- Tightly replace the spray nozzle and give the bottle a shake. Now, press the top of the nozzle and give yourself a few spritzes of perfume.
Tips and tricks:
- What else can you add to your experiment? Glitter? Food coloring?
Important information:
- Always point the nozzle away from the face and eyes before spraying.
- Do not drink the water during or after the experiment.
This is not the Skulltimate Secrets key water! - Discard perfume mixture after use. Do not store the experiment over night.
- Thoroughly rinse out the bottle and spray nozzle after the experiment is done.
- Place the spray bottle and nozzle on a towel to air dry after rinsing.
