Now you can perform an experiment at home with tech genius, Bryden Bandweth™. Make your own panda-shaped speaker using safe household ingredients like apple slices. Smartphones and computers convert your favourite songs into a series of electrical pulses. These electrical pulses are sent to the panda speaker and back in a circular path — a complete circuit. When you feed an apple slice to the panda, you complete the path and the electricity reaches the speaker. You can now hear the music! If any part of this path is broken, the speaker won’t work. This means that apples can conduct electricity!

Wanna learn how to do Bryden’s Speaker experiment? We’ve got all the details you need:

What you’ll need for this experiment:

  • Panda speaker, auxiliary cable with clip, 2x panda arms and feet from Bryden’s Speaker set.
  • Apple slice
  • 3x 1.5V batteries

Before you begin…

This experiment requires 3x 1.5V batteries to be installed in the panda speaker.

Let’s begin!

  1. Cut a thin apple slice.
  2. Connect the panda’s arms and legs.
  3. Insert the apple slice into the panda’s mouth, making sure the sensors on the bottom and top of the panda’s mouth are touching the apple.
  4. Clip the auxiliary cord onto the panda’s left ear. Make sure the sensors inside the clip touch the sensors on the front of the panda’s ear.
  5. Press the panda’s right ear down to turn the speaker on.
  6. Plug the auxiliary cord into your smart phone or any music device with a compatible jack. Turn on your music source and the speaker will play your tunes.

Tips and tricks:

  • You don’t necessarily have to use an apple slice for this experiment to work – you can use any object that contains moisture! What other objects could you use?

Important information:

  • Always press the panda’s ear to turn the unit off after playing to conserve battery life.
  • Use a damp paper towel to wipe off the panda’s mouth after use. DO NOT submerge the unit in water.
  • Use a dry paper towel to thoroughly dry the panda’s mouth area after cleaning.
  • DO NOT eat the apple slice or any other food item after it has been removed from the panda’s mouth.
  • Make sure the auxiliary cord is clean and dry before plugging into your smart phone or other music device.

These instructions have been lifted near-directly from the doll’s original manual. Please take care when attempting experiments and be sure to prepare your surroundings for any possible stains or mess.
