Make your own glitter globe light again and again using safe household ingredients like water, glitter and glycerine. Most people know that wires conduct electricity, but did you know that tap water can as well? To turn on the light, you need electricity to flow from the battery to the light and back — a complete circuit. Turning the bulb right side up allows electricity to flow through the water and reach the light. You add glycerine because it thickens the water, making it more like syrup. Now, the glitter will fall slower.

What you’ll need for this experiment:
- Pre-assembled light bulb apparatus from McKeyla’s Light Bulb set
- Distilled Water
- Glycerine
- Glitter
Let’s begin!
- Twist off the light bulb cap and the light bulb from the base.
- Twist off the light bulb from the light bulb cap with owl stem.
- Hold the light bulb upside down. Fill the bulb 3/4 full of distilled water. Fill the remaining 1/4 with glycerine, Leave space at the top to prevent spillage when re-inserting the stem.
- Add a few dashes of glitter to the light bulb.
- Insert the owl stem into the light bulb and firmly twist on the light bulb cap.
- Twist the light bulb and light bulb cap onto the light bulb base. Turn on the base to illuminate your creation!
Important information:
- Always turn the light bulb base to “OFF” after playing to conserve battery life.
- Remove the clear portion of the light bulb from the base before washing. Rinse with mild dish soap and water only. DO NOT expose the light bulb base to moisture of any kind.
- Place the light bulb and light bulb cap with owl stem on a towel to air dry after rinsing.
- The light bulb is to be used with water only when it is fully assembled in accordance with the instructions.
