What you’ll need for this experiment:
- Light-up lip gloss tube and pipette from McKeyla’s Lava Lip Gloss set
- Oil (castor oil recommended)
- Another oil (safflower oil recommended)
- Food colouring OR flavoured, coloured beverage
Let’s begin!
- Insert the pipette into one oil. Gently squeeze the top and release to gather oil.
- Remove the cap and roller ball from the top of the lip gloss tube. Separate the lip gloss container from the battery compartment. Insert the pipette and squeeze to release the oil. Fill the tube about half way.
- Fill the tube almost to the top with your second choice of oil.
- Add two drops of food coloring or a splash of a flavored, colored beverage.
- Reinstall the battery compartment and tightly replace the roller ball on the lip gloss tube. Turn it sideways to watch the “lava” bubbles move.
- Remove the pull tab from the battery compartment. Twist the bottom of the tube to light up the gloss before you apply to your lips!
Important information:
- Twist off the battery compartment on the bottom of the lip gloss tube before washing. DO NOT wet it or submerge it in water.
- Before the first use and after each additional use, rinse out the lip gloss tube with water and mild dish soap.
- Air dry only in a well ventilated area before storing.
- Only apply lip gloss to the lip area. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
- Use a damp, clean rag and water to gently rub off lip gloss.
- Always turn the lip gloss tube off after use to conserve battery power
