Rebecca Rubin, 1914
Rebecca is a young girl from New York City during the early 20th century. She was the tenth Historical Characters, introduced by American Girl in 2009.
She represents the second wave of European immigration to America and Jewish-American culture. Her stories also explore the new ideas and technologies of the early 20th century, as well as the start of WW1.
Rebecca is the daughter of Russian-Jewish immigrants and sometimes struggles with living with balancing both cultures. She is a middle child and often feels lost in the shuffle. Rebecca dreams of the spotlight and aspires to be an actress in the movies like her cousin Max, but her parents want her to become a teacher instead. Rebecca loves to sing and perform. She is also very clever and has a knack for business. She helped fund her uncle and cousins trip to America by selling her crochet at her father’s shoe shop, and became especially close with her cousin Ana.
Her collection was revitalised in 2014 with the launch of Beforever.
