WowWee
WowWee is a company based in Hong Kong, founded in Canada in 1988.
The company specialises in robotic toys – their earliest products were manufactured to be marketed and sold under different brands, but during the late nineties they would begin to sell products with WowWee branding. Their breakthrough success was with the Robosapien – a bulky but sleek black and white robot – which would be followed by more robotic creatures in the same style, including Roboraptor, Roboboa and Robopet, plus an eventual Robosapien 2.0.
WowWee’s other notable original products include the Paper Jamz electronic guitars and the viral Fingerlings from 2017, which continue to be produced to this day. They have also produced licensed products for properties such as Illumination, Sesame Workshop, Dreamworks Animation, Pinkfong and Hasbro Games – ironically WowWee was under Hasbro ownership from 1998 to 2007.
