I have been seeing a lot of people use this app Indyx to catalog their clothes. I don’t need it for my clothes but I though it might be useful for my dolls clothes. I figured I could at least use it keep track of what I have, for whenever I find loose doll clothes while second hand shopping. Its also useful for styling outfits without taking everything out.
I had to take picture of each piece of clothing. It auto removes the background for each picture. I used a piece of cardboard for the background. I only did this for my twelve inch dolls such as Barbie. I do have some other size dolls such as Chelsea but not enough for me to bother cataloging them. I skipped most small accessories such as bracelets since I am not able to get my phone camera to focus on them. This Rainbow High bracelet I added is super blurry.
You can save a lot of details to each item. I only did the basics of item type, brand, and colors. There is also size, season, and item location. I wish there were more details that I could add such as fabric type or patterns such as floral or polka dot.
I also skipped the price section. It is meant to help track price per wear.
Once you have individual pieces uploaded you can use them to create outfits. The outfit making spot lets you move around each item picture wherever you want, you can even rotate and resize them. The resizing is very useful for items such the Rainbow High bracelet shown earlier. They don’t look as blurry when sized down.
You can add the outfits to calendar to track when you wear them. I only used this feature because I thought it looked cute.
The categories tab has different folders in it. You can create new folders too. Once you create a category in a folder you can add items or outfits into it. If you add outfits, the items used in that outfit automatically get added to the same category. I tried to use this to separate and organize the different brands I have.
I am not sure if I would recommend doing this. It took a very long time to set up, I spent several hours every day for several days in a row. It would have been faster if I had stock photos of everything but a lot of my pieces didn’t come as fashion packs, so flat lays of just the clothing wouldn’t exist.
There are lot of things I didn’t catalog. Chelsea sized pieces, Ken accessories (I use his clothes on Barbie but his shoes are useless to me), accessories that are not meant to be removed like Barbie earrings, accessories that I don’t want to be removed like the mickey ears on my Disney ILY dolls, and teeny tiny accessories such as bracelets that I didn’t want to spend forever trying to get a good picture of. And there are still some dolls on the shelf that I just don’t feel like taking down right now just to take a picture of their clothes and put them back up.
I have used it style some outfits. While it is way easier than taking everything out of storage to see it all, I am just not the kind of collector who regularly restyles my dolls. I haven’t had a chance to test out my keep track of what I have when second hand shopping idea yet.
However I have found it interesting to see all my dolls clothes and how much I have of each type of item. Barbie has tons of jean shorts but no actual jeans, only Disney ILY has actual jean pants.
I will be keeping the Indyx app for a while but I am not sure if it is something I will keep up with long term.
This is so cool! I doubt I’d have the patience to use it, but it’s still really interesting. I’m getting “Cher’s digital closet” from Clueless 🙂
Yes!!! I was about to say that too, it looks so fun!
This is awesome!!!
This is so fun and super satisfying to look at!
😲 This is so awesome! I am exactly the type of person who would enjoy the minutia of doing this. Plus, i struggle with organizing my doll clothes in a way that is useful too me. i’ve tried the 3 ring binder with plastic pockets. it’s satisfying in a tidy way, but not easy for me to use. Thank you for the information!
This is so amazing!! Such a cool way to track what is in your collection & to help conceptualize outfits!!
Such a cute idea, time consuming but cute lol
