Monster High G3 Catty Noir Restyle and Review!

Background

When leaks of Catty were released, I found myself and a lot of other people unimpressed. Especially right after the Goddess that was Venus released–she felt like a huge disappointment in comparison.

Several months later, more images were released and immidiately looked much better. I decided to wait the release out, let people restyle her, and form a new opinion. And boy, she did: a lot of people ended up restyling her after a spotty release (including people looking into Indonesia shipments or something) of dolls released to several Walmarts. I noticed a lot of people ditching her dress and ponytail in their restyles and giving her bangs. Oh my gosh, she looked so cute with bangs! Later I found myself visiting my always-delayed Walmart in hopes of getting my very own Catty, and my Walmart surprisingly pulled through! I visited with my two friends (one another doll collector and the other a local man lol), and I nearly fell to my knees in the middle of Walmart when I saw, not just one, but two Cattys in real life. At this time, I already preordered her on Amazon but she was taking a while to ship so I gave up waiting for her on there. I immidately snatched her up and my friend got her too, so we now have matching Catty dolls!! She got me the Monster Fest Clawdeen in exchange for me getting her the My Melody Licca earlier. Love her <3

This is a picture of her in box. I got pretty lucky with her screening because she doesn’t look that wonky to me imo. She comes with several accessories, but I don’t ever actually use them that often, except for their iCoffins.

Catty is a doll that feels specifically catered towards me: her number is 13 (my birthdate), she’s a black cat, she’s plus size, and she has pink accents. Her sculpt looks just like me irl, she has a round face, she’s short, and again plus size. She makes me and other girls like us feel welcomed and considered attractive! I really appreciate what Mattel did for us.

Details

Lots of Twitter exploded when people noticed that Catty has a stomach pouch! It might seem silly to think about, but women aren’t usually allowed to be both plus size and have a stomach. Most plus-size models don’t even have a pouch. Lots of people, myself included, were delighted with this realization.

Catty’s skin also has a blue-ish shimmer that’s hard to capture on camera. I think it’s gorgeous and adds dimension to her doll.

 

Her tail moves in 360 degrees, giving her lots of posability!

There are a couple of clothes that fit her well, but it depends on which body part the clothes are going on. Barbie tops fit her especially well, and Rainbow High tops barely fit but the velcro doesn’t close in the back. I have a Barbie skirt on her right now, but I think the skirts that fit her the best are the ones with velcro fully down the skirt. It’s hard to fit the clothes on her with her tail in the way, especially if you don’t want to limit her posability.

Something to note is the fact that her lips are pixelated. It doesn’t bother me, but I know it does for others.

My Restyle

 

 

The first thing I did after having my endoscopy was give Catty bangs. She was on my mind all day and night, so I knew that would be the first thing I would do right off of the anesthesia. To do this, I sectioned her hair into three parts: the partline, the remainder of the right side of her hair, and the remainder of her

left hair. Then I slowly parted her hair down the middle, making sure there weren’t any bald spots. Then I doused her in water this way, and then I dunked her again this time with the bangs in place but for a full minute under water. Then, I put her in the freezer for 15 minutes just to be sure.

I ended up yanking some of her braids out (they’re really easy to pull out, unfortunately) and rerooting them in her bangs as well because otherwise, you wouldn’t see the rest of her braids that are hidden behind her. I didn’t glue them down or anything, so I just won’t tug them out of place.

I put her in the Shadow High Pinkie top (doesn’t close at the back) and a handmade barbie skirt by SoWhippedFauxTreats (@user323489717) on Mercari US.

I also gave her many accessories from that one party g3 Draculaura doll. User @eyeheartmybrain on Twitter discovered that her bow hairclip fits Catty’s tail perfectly, so I obviously stole that idea. Monster High shoes fit her well, and Rainbow High shoes also fit her perfectly. The purse is also from that doll.

I also made Catty some earrings and a ring on her index finger! I love how big G3’s ears are because I can make the earrings really intriquite. Someone gifted me the gems, so I’m not sure where they came from so sorry!

Final Thoughts

I think that she’s an absolutely steller doll released from G3! I had my doubts at first, but seeing her in person made me fall in love with her! I think she accomplishes many things that other doll lines are afraid to do, such as her plus size body! She’s also just adorable as well! I always look forward to her restyles by other people because Catty is really the definition of “Let her cook!”
