This article is text and picture heavy. And there is one picture containing doll nudity. But this is for review purposes.
Crossposted from MyFigureCollection, with some minor differences.
Hello again Dollect users and visitors !
Today I wanted to review and share my thoughts on my first Momoko Doll, who is none other then Oozora Hibari from the 80’s anime and manga series “Stop!! Hibari-kun!”. Which is a personal favorite pre-90’s anime of mine.
If you plan on interacting with this article. Please read the disclaimer before you do so.
Disclaimer
I just wanted to mention that I will be referring to Hibari as a girl. I have consumed all of the anime and manga content for this series, and read several interviews with the creator. And I still view the character as such.
You are free to disagree with me, but please do not argue about this or make any transphobic remarks in the comments. This is not intended to be a discussion on that topic.
There are actually several Momoko dolls of Hibari released. And one that was canceled.
The first one released was in a pink babydoll outfit back in 2018.
And there were 3 different dolls released at the same time at an Hisashi Eguchi Exhibition in 2023.
These dolls were “MA-1”, “Mod coat”, and “Uniform”.
All though these dolls are event exclusives. I managed to pick up a doll from Amazon.JP
I decided to purchase the “MA-1” version in particular, because the outfit seamed to be the least likely to stain the doll over time. Since the other two dolls have black and dark blue outfits.
Anyway, onto the review!

The Box
The package for this doll is pretty basic. The box is mostly white with a splash of green with the series logo. I didn’t bother to take a picture of the rest of the box because that is literally the only graphic on the packaging. The top, bottom and sides are blank white, and the back just has text.
One thing I will give the box credit for through, is that the plastic window showcases the doll very well. And it’s nice and clear. I might be crazy, but it seams even more clear then most figure and doll packing usually is.
This packaging is very much in box collector friendly. Which is considerate because there actually are a decent amount on NIB Momoko collectors out there based off of what I have seen.
But I will be unboxing mine.
Here she is partially unboxed. You can see that her shoes and jacket are packaged separately.
I will admit, she a bit finicky to get out. Mainly because of those pesky twist ties that me and other doll collectors are all to familiar with.
The Doll
(Doll stand was not included.)
Here is Hibari fresh out of the box. She has a lot of cling wrap like material all over her body, I assume the prevent staining.
It was a bit tedious to remove, and I actually had to undress her to get it all off.
Doll nudity warning!
Hibari has a unique sculpt for her body type in terms of fashion dolls. She has a completely flat chest with a small waist. Her limbs are rather thin as well, but the doll does not feel fragile.
The outfit is simple, but very well done. The pants are actual denim, with semi-working pockets, and a metal clasp in the back to close them properly on the doll.
The shirt is very simple, but the fabric is nice quality. And the stripes are nice and crisp in person. Which is actually quite impressive considering that these are 1/6 doll clothes.
The jacket is amazing. It feels exactly like a designer jacket, and is sewn very well. The zipper is real metal, but it does not function like an actual zipper.
Here she is!
Everything fits super well on her. My only real complaint besides some minor fraying on the jeans, is that Hibari can’t put her hands in the pockets. Not even a little bit.
The reason for this is because Hibari’s hands are on a single-hinged joint. So her hands can’t rotate side-to-side. Which is needed at least a little bit in order to pull off that pose.
They even used that pose for a promotional photo…
I don’t know if this is the case for every doll, but for mine I can’t get it to do this. Maybe I could if I put more tension on the joint? But I am not risking it.
Hibari has light brown eyes with the signature lashes that Eguchi Hisashi‘s characters are well known for.
There is a minor printing mistake on the lower lashes on the right eye. It’s not that noticeable in person though
I love this doll’s hair a lot. I try not to add many blonde dolls into my collection because of my literal tote of blonde Barbie’s from my childhood. But Hibari’s hair is actually a really nice natural honey blonde color. It’s very fine and soft as well.
Hibari’s look overall is very natural. She doesn’t appear to have any makeup, but her lips are a different color then the rest of her skin.
Comparisons
Here is how she looks next to some comparisons! But keep in mind that Hibari has a different body type compared to other Momoko dolls. But I am unsure how this affects the height difference.
Here is hibari next to a standard size Pureneemo
(Ohara Mari)
Next to a standard size Mamachapp.(Moko-chan, Cafe Costume ver. Orange Clothes).
A standard size Barbie Extra . (Keep in mind that this Barbie is on her toes).
An Usaggie and Jossie. Who are made by Petworks. Which is one of the companies that makes Momoko dolls.
(I made articles on both of them)
And lastly, Hibari with… Mini Hibari’s!
Overall thoughts
Hibari is a great quality doll with even better quality clothing. The dolls face up does a great job capturing the character with a more modernized look.
The articulation however, does leave a lot to be desired. With a doll line that makes high quality products, and has several joints built into the sculpt. The articulation is not the best. Especially the wrists.
But other then that, I am satisfied with the purchase. I don’t plan on purchasing another Momoko for a while. Unless I find one I like for a good deal or something. But I am happy to at the very least own a doll of Hibari.
Thank you so much for reading!
Oh, interesting! I had no clue they did a Hibari-kun collab. Trans dolls are so rare, I’m happy this exists.
Sad to hear about the articulation. I’ve been thinking of getting one of human Petworks dolls for a while, so seeing how awkward something as simple as wrist movements are is very disappointing. I guess if I can find one for a lower price point…
Based off of what I have noticed, the original creator kind of uses her as a mascot of sorts for his brand? He is a pretty well admired artist in Japan. And Hibari is his most popular character that Hisashi Eguchi has created. So a lot of companies have been making Hibari merch in particular for events that Hisashi Eguchi is a part of.
I know some people like to get Momoko’s and Rebody them on Obitsu or Pureneemo body’s. So if you find one for cheep, that could be an option?
She’s so cute! I love Hibari and also had no idea she got any dolls! Hisashi Eguchi’s art style really works in doll form, her face is so pretty <3 Congrats on getting her!
She really is! I was surprised with how well the art style translates to doll form. Also, thank you!
