I’ve been going to the flea markets a lot this summer and finding lots of cool dolls! Some haul pics real quick:
I’ve been picking up any Cave Club dolls I see because I think they’re good candidates for repaint practice. I see them often in pristine condition and for very cheap – I got the two cavegals for this project for 1 euro each. The boy one has been haunting the discount store shelves for at least a year and a half now. I will not save him.
My concept is to make MLP custom dolls using Cave Club dolls as the bases. Whatever character I think their hair colors are closest to is who I’ll customize them into. For these dolls, I chose Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie. Eventually they will get custom outfits, but that’s a project for another blog post… Here’s some pics of blank faced Cave Club dolls for anyone who needs em!
I used the same Efimeso acrylic paint pens as my MLP repaint project as well as some Liquitex acrylic paint. I don’t think this is the recommended method, but I guess I’m just twisted like that.
For my next repaint I will do the thinned out acrylic/intense layering method of repainting and see what result that gives. For now we paint pen.
I experimented a little with adding gouache and acrylic paint with a paintbrush, but everything ultimately got covered up with paint pens.
Final product! I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. I still need to add some matte varnish to them to finish things off. Hopefully I can get my hands on more dolls to practice with. Also time to learn how to make doll clothes!

I love paint pens! Your repaints here are so colorful and fun
They look SO much better, very cute repaint!
