Monster High

Introduction

Monster High is franchise created by Garrett Sanders, who while working at Mattel noticed that young girls were leaning into a more goth and edgy fashion style and they were not as interetested in the hyper-feminine aesthetics that Mattel was offering at the time.
The Monster High doll series was initially created alongside a webisode series to promote the line and introduce characters. Monster High Generation 1 (often shortened to G1) is the first iteration of the brand, which ran from 2010 to 2015. Due to lowering sales and concerns that the dolls were “too scary”, the entire franchise underwent a “reboot”, now known as Monster High Generation 2. The series has since produced another reboot, Generation 3, which is currently still being produced alongside both an animated series and a live action series.

Information

Monster High is the “reimagining” of classic horror movie monsters, depicted through the characters being the children of famous horror figures, such as Dracula or Frankenstein. In each generation, the children attend a large, mysterious school called Monster High.

Generation 1 focuses on the life of Frankie Stein, a Franken-Monster, who is brand new to the world.
Generation 2 focuses on the story of Draculaura, daughter of Dracula, as she helps build a school for monsters.
Generation 3 focuses on the story of Clawdeen Wolf, a werewolf, who is adjusting to her new life at Monster High after living in the human world her entire life.

Each Generation of the franchise promotes a strong theme of being your truest self, accepting everyone, and embracing your “freaky flaws”.
