SDCC Silver Believix Bloom-FEP Sample!~
Winx Club Jakks Pacific SDCC 2012 Silver Believix Bloom
A small background on the Winx SDCC dolls. They were released in 2012. 3 different versions of Bloom in her Believix outfit. Blue, Silver, and Gold. Blue has a Limited Edition of 1010 made world wide. Silver has a Limited Edition of 510 worldwide. Gold has a Limited Edition of 210 worldwide. Blue was released on the ToysRUs website. The only place you could get Silver and Gold was at SDCC. Silver was for sale while Gold went up in a raffle for 7 of the 210.
Today, we are focusing on Silver Bloom.
Our story starts on eBay. Chris noticed this listing for a bloom doll. I had noticed it had no number but I figured I’d let it go to someone else. Over time, I became interested in her. On April 26,2017. I had just won a bid on a SDCC Silver Believix Doll.
Like many other dolls, I asked the seller where did she come from. The seller had no idea and she was located in a storage unit in California.
This doll had a blank where the numbers should have gone. The dolls COA was also blank. The box had been previously opened. She was/is still attached to the cardboard. She had her brush and flyer. On the back, there was a small sticker that said “jakks Pacific Sample” along with more information.
I had gotten a few friends (I think 5) to try to find out what they could about her. By the time she arrived on April 29,2017. All of the people had fallen off trying to look for her. So, it was time to get to work.
One thing to know about me is, I will find the needle in a haystack. No matter how much time it takes. Every video of SDCC 2012 that I could find, I went through them. I tried to look for different hand positions, tensil placement, ect. I looked through past and (at the time) current listings. Images from videos, any website you can think of having to do with SDCC. Anything I could find. I never did find her.
In the meantime, I tried to look into what everything on the sticker meant. Jakks Pacific is clearly who made the dolls. The item number and the option B. So, Blue was either A or C. Same with Gold. Part name Silver because she’s silver bloom. July 3,2012 was the day the Winx SDCC dolls were released.
The thing that got me stuck for a long time was FEP. I found out through Barbie it was Final Engineering Pilot. Basically the one who got the okay for the others to be released.
When I realized I couldn’t find her, i sent emails to a few different people. Multiple emails to jakks. They never did get back to me. Also, emails to rainbow. I went into looking at the prototype process. I ended up on Godzilla prototypes. I found out that the process is pretty much the same for everything. Figures, clothes, shoes, plushes, ect. A lot of my knowledge came from this process. It was interesting to say the least.
In December of 2017, I received Silver Bloom 1,2,3, and 4 from my fiancé as a Christmas Gift. I’ll make a separate post about them. The story is a fun one.
What I was curious in was the dolls themselves but the shipping box it came in. Item #53288 Comic Con Doll- Option B. Which matches up to the item number and description of Silver Bloom.
After I had received 1-4, I went to a forum to see if I could find out anymore from people who were there. That lead to a high up Nick executive selling me 6 more SDCC dolls. 3 harmonix Bloom, an unnumbered daphne, a silver bloom(with a beat up box) and a gold bloom sample. He didn’t give me more information but, I was able to talk him down from $1000 to $350 for all 6. It was a good day.
I ended up turning again to the winx community. A old friend steered me in the right direction. I ended up sending a email and finally got my answers. July 24,2018 was when I got the answers I had been looking for.
To answer what she is, she’s a “Pre-production, and First (not final) Engineering Production sample. She was not numbered because she wasn’t approved yet.” The quote was taken directly from the email I received. This person wishes to remain unidentified. I will not disclose more. I only have permission to share what was in the first email. We ended up communicating over the next year. Im super grateful for the opportunity to talk to this person. I will always treasure and respect these dolls because of what I’ve found out.
To end this, it was definitely more about the journey. Not to say the end wasn’t worth it. For me, it lit a fire in me that still goes. I’ve had the pleasure of getting other Winx Samples and Prototypes. I’ve gotten Barbie Prototypes and anime Figure Samples. None of that would have happened if I never came across this doll. I still consider myself to be a prototype collector and would gladly go after any that I can. I already had manufacture mistake dolls and figures. This just opened up another world for me.
I will always have a love and appreciation for the SDCC dolls. I’m glad to have as many as I do. I would gladly buy more knowing they went to a good home. These dolls will always have a place on my shelf.
To Silver Bloom,
Thank you for opening my eyes and life to more that’s out there. You’ve taught me respect and kindness. I’ve met many people and learned so much through you. Thank you. No matter how many of you I get. Each SDCC doll is loved and respected here.
