Hello everyone! It’s been a long since I wrote an article on Dollect. I missed writing here and I am back from my writing break.
Well, without further ado, let’s begin, shall we? So,first I’ll just remind everyone that is okay to feel like this, you are human and you live in a system that makes you overconsume and the same economic system gets richer every time you spend money on something you love or need. But I am also reminding you all that you do not have to be consumed by this feeling of not feeling like a good doll colector for not getting the doll you want. It is hard to do it (easier said than done, actually),but seeing people talking about this is conforting, because it makes us realize we are not alone.
I realized today (and other days before today) that I am feeling what I am calling doll anxiety and it happens with everyone, including me and you that are in the doll community. For those who don’t know, doll anxiety basically happens all year, but it gets worse on holidays or any day no one is prepared (at least for me). I am realizing how anxious I actually am,which sucks and how much FOMO takes the fun of my special interest.
I have been feeling this for a while,so writing about it helps me a lot. My former therapist said that I could draw my emotions or could write about it,so this could help me understand them and name them. So,I think that understanding how you feel, being honest with yourself and seeing if you actually want the doll can make a huge difference in your collecting life. Oh,and also, seeing the pros and cons of collecting, seeing which dolls you want to keep and which you do not want to and talking to someone, just to vent or to listen to advice are really great options. And giving yourself a break from social media (Twitter,Instagram,Tumblr, etc) can help a lot. Give yourself a break. Meditate or just breathe, inhale and exhale. Just use the cellphone for things that helps you. This hobby is supposed to be fun,not stressful,so give yourselves some time to think about it and have a good time.
(If you feel like you are in a bad place mentally and other doll collectors makes you feel anxious or not want to be yourself because of their opinions,DO NOT feel obligated to agree with them. Cloetta made an awesome video about it!)

(I made this image to try to fit the theme of this article. I like it).
You know, I discovered this channel a while ago and I love this video that she made. It made me realize a lot. The link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2Qz0kmdYcI&t=3s
I am linking those videos because they are probably the best videos that I watch to make me calm and put my head in the right place. I know I talk about this theme a lot (this is the second article I am writing about this) and it is probably getting tiring, boring. I do not know.
But I hope I helped you the best I could.
So,do not forget this:
- Pros and cons list
- Writing or drawing how you feel
- Give yourself social media break
- Meditate
- Give yourself some time to reflect
- Talk/vent with someone you trust about it
- See videos that makes you relaxed
- Give away or sell the dolls you do not want anymore, downsizing the collection if you feel like it
- See if you actually like the doll you got
- Use the cellphone to help you,not to stress you
- Do NOT get yourself into tons of debts because of dolls
- Have fun with your hobby, play offline with the dolls
I hope you liked it,and I will see you soon next time!
With love,Thay Piaf.
You’re right, knowing we are not alone is important. I do worry about the innate consumerism of doll collecting. I try to play more with my dolls, which for me is making them clothes and restyling them
