Takara Tomy
Takara Tomy is a Japanese company based in Katsushika, Tokyo. The current company was formed in 2006 from the merger of two companies: Takara, established in 1955; and Tomy, established in 1924. In most Western countries the company trades under the Tomy name, while Takara Tomy is used in Asia.
Takara’s most famous original properties pre-merger include Licca-chan, Microman, Beyblade and B-Daman – they also produced video games in the 1990s and early 2000s. Meanwhile, Tomy would gain success with their line of licensed Pokémon products in the late 1990s, as well as their original properties Tomica, Zoids and Plarail amongst others. Post-merger, the company would continue to produce both Takara and Tomy’s classic toys under Takara Tomy.
The company has produced a wide range of licensed products based on properties such as Nintendo, Sega, Peppa Pig and Bluey, as well as original properties such as YumiAmi, PriPara and their Lamaze baby and preschool toy range (acquired in 2011). They have also produced notable board games including Screwball Scramble and Pop Up Pirate.
