Kanani Akina, 2011

Kanani was the ninth Girl of the Year, introduced by American Girl in 2011.

Kanani is a young girl living on the island of Kaua’i, who loves her home and community. She helps her parents at their shave ice store and even creates her own shave ice stand on the beach. Kanani’s cousin Rachel comes to visit and she shows her around and brings down her walls. Kanani is kind, caring, and ingenuitive.

Kanani was archived in 2011, after her year was over, making way for McKenna Brooks
