Dated 1991 and a modified version of the Mackie face sculpt, this face was created specially for and has only been used on the 1999 Sleeping Beauty Barbie dolls. The dolls feature a special mechanism in their heads which allow their eyes to close or “fall asleep” when Barbie’s arm is lowered, and open or “awaken” when her arm is raised. This head sculpt is fixed on the neck and cannot be moved like other normal Barbie heads.
