Ciao! (Hello!) from Italy, the boot-shaped European country known for food, fashion and fun! I come from a Southern Italian city called Naples, which makes me a Neopolitan (citizen of Naples). It is said that a Neopolitan baker first invented Pizza (Italian pie) in the early 1700’s. Besides pizza, we’re famous for our pasta (noodle dishes), minestrone (soup), Parmesan (cheese), and fine Italian vino (wine). Each night, we gather in neighborhood piazzas (outdoor meeting places) to be with friends. We’re not shy… we love to stand up and sing out loud to entertain each other! Favorite Italian sports are soccer, bicycle racing, and race car driving! The outfit I’m wearing is a traditional costume worn by Neopolitan dancers. My white peasant blouse is topped by a colorful jacket, skirt and apron. Today, Italy’s fashion industry is world-famous for setting trends in clothing and shoe designs. I hope you will come to my country and enjoy la dolce vita (the sweet life)! Arrivederci (Good-bye!)
