Hola! (Hello!) I’m Chilean Barbie! Welcome to my fascinating country, the longest in the world. It stretches from the desert in the north, home to cactus found nowhere else, to the Antarctic in the South, where you’ll find glaciers and penguins. When you visit, you’ll want to see the capital Santiago, with its statue of the Virgin Mary on San Cristobal Hill and a zoo with native Chilean animals. Off the coast, and well worth a trip, are huge, mysterious statues, moai, on Easter Island. They’ve been there for centuries and no one knows how they got there. While you’re here, you’ll discover many interesting animals and types of food. Vicunas and alpacas are animals that look like mini camels and provide wool for warm clothing. Our most famous food is the empanada, a tasty meat pie shaped like a small turnover. Our national pastime, and passion, is futbul (soccer) and you can see children playing it everywhere. You might also see them dancing the cueca, Chile’s national folkdance, with wild footstamping and lots of spirit. My charming costume is based on the clothing of the huaso, or Chilean cowboy, and is worn for roundups and rodeos. My bolero jacket is worn over a traditional dress with ruffles on the top and a black skirt on the bottom. My costume sports a hat and sash banded in red, blue and white, the colors on the chilean flag. I hope this has given you a little taste of Chile. There is so much to see and do, but for now adios (goodbye)!
