Kenner started producing Strawberry Shortcake toys in 1979. These toys are a series of scented toys with pets that are recognizable by their outfits, which include a hat, dress, and stripy socks. There were 25 different characters that had dolls produced, with other characters that only exist in illustration and/or the short television episodes. The franchise became so popular that it led to the production of many other products, including video games, clothing and accessories, an animated series and more. Kenner lost the licensing for Strawberry Shortcake in 1985.

First Edition

This line of dolls was released in 1979. Notably, this was the only time that these characters were released with flat hands. However, as future characters came into the line, all the baby characters retain the flat hands for the rest of Kenner’s ownership of Strawberry Shortcake.
