Kenner

Kenner Products was an American toy company based in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was established in 1946. The company closed in 2000 and its properties were rebranded under Hasbro, who had purchased Kenner in 1991.

Several staple Hasbro brands were created by Kenner – namely the Easy-Bake Oven, Littlest Pet Shop and Baby Alive – while the company was also famous for toys based on licensed properties such as DC Comics, Ghostbusters and Jurassic Park. One of their most famous products was the initial line of Star Wars action figures based on the original trilogy, not only being a massive sales success but also popularising the 3.75 inch action figure scale seen as industry standard today.

Kenner began as an independent company but was acquired by American food giant General Mills in 1967, taking on the Play-Doh brand through a 1971 merger with Rainbow Crafts. General Mills would spin-off Kenner alongside the Parker Brothers brand, forming a newly merged Kenner Parker company – this company was acquired by Tonka in 1987, which would itself be acquired by Hasbro in 1991. The closure of the Cincinnati office in 2000 would mark the end of Kenner as a company.
