Spanish Barbie

(Back of the Box)

I am from Madrid, the capital of Spain. My country lies between Portugal and France. It is separated from France by the Pyrenees mountains. Throughout Spain, there are many towns with narrow streets, old buildings and castles. Important crops are sugar cane, olives, maize, oranges and grapes. The grapes are made into wine and sherry. The most popular dish in Spain is paella, made from rice, tomatoes, peppers, meat and fish. Our money is called the peseta. Our national sport is bullfighting. Before the fight begins, the matadors parade in the bull ring. The matadors use red capes to make the bull angry. The Spanish people enjoy fiestas or feast days, and no fiesta is complete without dancing. Every region has its own dances, costumes and music. In one dance, the flamenco, dancers stamp their feet and play castanets. I hope you can visit my country. One of our favorite sayings is “Nuestra casa is su casa,” which means “Our house is your house.”
