I am from Sweden. It is a long, narrow country, with Norway on the west and Finland on the east. Sweden is in Scandinavia, which includes Norway, Denmark and Finland. Sweden is the richest country in Europe. Timber, dairy farming, steel, engineering and glass are important industries. Stockholm, Sweden’s capital, is a beautiful city built on 12 islands and connected by bridges. Although many Swedes live in apartments, they often have a cottage in the country because they like the outdoors and outdoor sports. Women wear costumes something like mine at festival time. At one festival, Midsummer’s Eve, people sing and dance around Maypoles. At special times we like to eat smorgasbord, a cold buffet that consists of many dishes of herring, smoked eel, ham, sausage, pates, cold roast meat, salads and breads. We take 7 years of English in school and speak it easily. Here are a few Swedish words for you to learn.
